Sooriyakanthi which translates to “sunflower” in English is a tabloid sheet newspaper with approximately 16 pages published every Wednesdays. This newspaper is a community publication for the Tamil-speaking population in the hills. Being the voice of the up country residents, this paper identifies their issues and empowers them to find solutions. Sooriyakanthi readers are comprised of those living in the plantation estates and towns in the central and uvaprovince, plantation workers, businessmen, entrepreneurs, teachers, students and young professionals. The paper is distributed in the central, uva and western province.
